Epoxy resin composite solutions for lighter and safer special gas cylinders

Gas cylinders are mobile pressure containers for permanent gases, liquefied gases or dissolved gases that can be repeatedly inflated for use under normal conditions (-40 to 60°C), with a nominal working pressure of 1.0 to 30 MPa (gauge pressure) and a nominal volume of 0.4 to 1000 L.

However, as a kind of pressure-bearing equipment, it has the risk of explosion, and its filling medium is generally flammable, explosive, toxic and strongly corrosive in nature, and there are characteristics such as movement, repeated filling, irregular operation and use of personnel and changes in the use environment during the process, so the requirements for gas cylinders are more complex and demanding than other pressure vessels!

 

With the development of lightweight and safe gas cylinders, carbon fiber wound special gas cylinders are gradually becoming the ideal choice.

Special gas cylinders are now widely used in fire-fighting equipment, breathing apparatus cylinders, hydrogen storage cylinders, etc. Carbon fiber wound composite gas cylinders use fibers impregnated with a resin matrix to be wound continuously in a spiral and circular manner on the inner liner for the full winding of carbon fiber. The high pressure-bearing design enables breathing apparatus cylinders to be filled with 30MPa compressed air at a volume of 7L, and the bursting pressure can reach over 100MPa, providing protection for fire-fighting work.

 

Carbon fiber winding is a method of continuous forming of composite materials. The basic method is to wind a continuous strip of fibers or cloth impregnated with a resin glue onto a core mold according to a certain pattern, and then cure and demold the product into a composite material. This method is mainly used for the manufacture of circular pipes, pressure tanks, storage tanks and other rotationally symmetrical shapes. It is characterized by a continuous, one-off forming process; the shape and dimensions of the product are guaranteed and the strength in the diameter direction is high.
